Spring is upon us, which usually means opening up the windows and cleaning out all of the dust and dirt that the winter seems to allow to collect in your house. Spending a few days every year giving your home a thorough cleaning is a good idea to keep down on the amount of dust mites, mold, pollen and other allergens that can build up. It also gives you a chance to freshen things up for the upcoming summer. But is your vacuum cleaner up for the task? If you are considering vacuum cleaner repairs local give Advantage Vacuums a call and we’ll get you ready to go.
Use Those Attachments
Spring cleaning is the best time to pull out those rarely used attachments for your vacuum cleaner. They are there for a reason, so why not put them to use doing all of the heavy lifting? While you may not have the right attachment for all of these tasks, you should be able to perform the majority of them with the ones that came with your vacuum cleaner.
Ceiling Fans
It is amazing how much dirt can build up on the blades of a ceiling fan. When you go to clean it off, instead of spreading all of that dust around by using a rag or duster, use the long attachment brush for your vacuum cleaner.
Not only will this make the job much easier (no need for a step ladder), but it will help you to contain the dust as you pull it off of the fan blades. Make sure the attachment you have has a soft brush so that you don’t leave any of the dirt behind.
Sliding Door Tracks
If you have sliding doors in your house, how often do you look in the tracks they slide on? Odds are, if you did, you would put your vacuum cleaner in there much more often than once every spring.
This is a great job for the hard plastic nozzle attachment. It can help you fit right into the tracks that your sliding door run on and pull up all of the dirt, mud and salt that built up in there over the winter.
Remember not to vacuum the door slides if they are damp! Pulling water or even wet dirt into your vacuum can damage it and then you’ll need vacuum cleaner repairs local.
Window Sills
Along with those door slides, your window sills can probably use a nice spring cleaning. Open up those windows, and use the same hard plastic attachment to pull up all of the winter dirt that has collected there.
The same rule applies as the door tracks: wait until it’s a dry day outside.
Walls
Walls might be a hard one to see the buildup on, but the dirt is there. Use the soft brush attachment to run over your walls and the corners where they meet the ceiling. This will pull out all the dust and cobwebs that have built up over the winter. Then wipe them down with a damp cloth for that extra clean.
